Job description

As a Data Steward with a development focus, the successful applicant will build and maintain robust data-processing pipelines for these diverse data types. An initial focus will be linked with the LiRI laboratory to develop a pipeline for EEG data processing. This will then expand to working with data coming from our new lab for visual language research. This will require working with/supporting research groups, understanding their needs and creating user-friendly, well-documented and adaptable solutions for data management and processing., * Scientific programming (data transformation, reproducibility, visualization, analysis)

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and workflows
  • Implement reproducible workflows using best-practice tooling
  • Collaborate with researchers and users to understand requirements and provide advice
  • Produce documentation and training materials for researchers
  • Contribute to teaching and training
  • Participate in the University's Data Stewards Network and Research Software Engineer community

Requirements

Do you have experience in Research?, * A relevant qualification with scientific programming experience (essential)

  • Python Programming and familiarity with commonly used data packages (Numpy, Pandas, Polars, etc.) (essential)
  • Familiarity with standard software engineering practices (e.g., test driven development) (essential)
  • Technical writing: able to write clear and concise documentation and training materials (essential)
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific data organization standards (like BIDS) and tools (MNE-python) (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Statistics (desirable)
  • Experience with other programming language: R, Matlab (desirable)
  • Prior experience working in a university or other research organisation (desirable)
  • Familiarity with the FAIR principles for research data management (desirable)

The Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI) at the University of Zürich is seeking a Data Steward to help develop the next generation of our data processing pipelines and to streamline our data management practices. As a technology Platform, we provide research facilities and services to researchers from diverse fields in the language sciences, who use wide variety of data, methods, and analyses. Consequently, we work with a variety of data types, ranging from text, audio, and video to physiological and neuroimaging data.
