Database administrator (PaaS) for NATO with security clearance

A senior Database Administrator (PaaS & Cloud Infrastructure) is required to manage, optimize, and modernize critical database platforms in a hybrid-cloud environment. This role is central to executing strategic cloud migration initiatives while maintaining robust, highly available on-premises systems. The DBA will leverage platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions and advanced automation to ensure scalability, resilience, and security. Success in this position requires a blend of deep database administration expertise, a DevOps-oriented approach to automation, and the ability to translate data infrastructure performance into actionable intelligence.

Responsibilities:

• Cloud Migration & PaaS Management: Lead and support database migration projects from on-premises environments to cloud platforms, with a focus on PaaS solutions like Azure SQL Database. Manage and optimize cloud-based database deployments for cost, performance, and security.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Implement, maintain, and test advanced HA/DR architectures for mission-critical databases, including technologies like clustering, replication, and Always On Availability Groups across hybrid environments.
• Automation & DevOps Integration: Develop and configure tools and scripts using PowerShell, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines to automate routine database administration tasks, including provisioning, patching, and compliance checks.
• Lifecycle & Performance Management: Perform installation, configuration, upgrades, and lifecycle management for database software across on-premises and cloud platforms. Conduct proactive monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
• Reporting & Intelligence: Design and develop dynamic reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, SSRS, or Grafana to provide insights into database health, performance trends, and operational metrics.
• Backup, Recovery & Security: Design, implement, and validate robust backup and recovery strategies. Enforce database security best practices, including access control, encryption, and vulnerability management.
• Cross-Platform Support: Apply core database administration principles to support and maintain other RDBMS platforms (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) as required by the environment.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

• Proficiency in cloud database solutions such as Azure SQL Database and automation, ensuring efficient and scalable deployments.
• Expertise in database administration, cloud database management and on-prem, and security best practices.
• Expertise in database migrations from on-prem to cloud,
• Experience with backup and recovery strategies, automation with PowerShell, and CI/CD integration, contributing to robust and secure database infrastructures.
• Extensive experience of Microsoft SQL Server on ON-Prem and Cloud Environments
• A good understanding of more advanced architectures on High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, like server clustering and virtual infrastructures
